A leg Spinner

At the start of his cricket career, Pandya was a leg-spinner. Once there was a fast bowler short during a local match in Kiran More International Cricket Academy. Hardik was handed over the responsibility. He straight away accepted this work and surprised all, taking seven wickets in the match. In this manner, he became a medium pace bowler.

Debut in Ranji trophy

Hardik Pandya made his Ranji debut for Baroda against Madhya Pradesh in the year 2013. Baroda won the match but Hardik failed to make an impression as he scored just 1 and 3 runs in both innings respectively.

Entry in Big League

Hardik Pandya was spotted by then Mumbai Indians coach John Wright in a West Zone match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. All high-profile members of Mumbai Indians were stunned by him during the selection trials. Head coach Ricky Ponting short-listed Hardik after going through the footage of more than 50 short-listed cricketers ahead of the IPL Season 8 player auction in February. He was later bought by the franchise at the base price of 10 lakhs.

Rise to fame

After toiling hard in the domestic circuit since 2013, Hardik Pandya was bought by Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2015 season. He did not let down and justified his talent. Firstly, he smashed 8 balls 21 against Chennai Super Kings and then rescued Mumbai Indians from Kolkata Knight Riders. He scored a blazing 31 ball 61 in a must-win match. His royal performances won him two ‘man of the match’ awards in the IPL.

Before becoming a Mumbai Indians star, Hardik Pandya played for Baroda at the domestic level. He broke into the Baroda Ranji squad on November 28, 2013.
