Every world cup leaves loads of special memories for the ODI fantasy world cup fans. The history of cricket is old but the history of this tournament dates back to 1975. It was the year when 7 nations started competing in the biggest cricket tournament. The oldest 7 nations who played at the first edition of the world cup are Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and West Indies.

Everyone who plays world cup fantasy game and watches cricket must have seen the first world cup trophy. As Indians, how can we forget the moment when Kapil Dev and team lifted their first WC trophy in 1983? That was one of the most glorious moments for all Indians. The trophy during that time was different. Prudential Cup Trophy was the name. The current name of the trophy is ICC trophy using World Cup 1999.

History of World Cup Trophy

The Prudential Cup

The first three editions of the World Cup held at England during 1975, 1979 and 1983. Prudential sponsored both the trophy and the cup. Windies lifted the Prudential Cup in the first two edition and India lifted it in the third edition.

The Reliance Cup

The venue of the world cup moved out of England into the sub-continent in 1987. The host was India and Pakistan and the new sponsor was Reliance. The young and aggressive Australian team lifted up the Reliance Cup.

Benson and Hedges World Cup

World Cup 1992 moved to Australia and New Zealand. For the first time all the matches were in colour clothes. Also, bowlers used white cricket balls to bowl. 9 teams participated during this world cup. Pakistan won the cup with some awe-inspiring leadership by Imran Khan. The trophy had been made of crystal and it is the only trophy which did not have any type of metal on it.

Wills World Cup

India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka hosted the world cup. 12 teams participated for the first time and also quarter-finals introduced. Arjuna Ranatunga led an unbeaten Sri Lankan team to become the World Champion in 1996. This is the only time till now that a co-host team has won the trophy.

ICC World Cup Trophy

The existing Trophy awarded to the winners of the ICC Cricket World Cup shaped for the 1999 championships. It is the first permanent prize in the tournament’s history.

A team of craftsmen from Garrad, the Crown Jewellers, developed the trophy. It was designed and produced in London within two months.

The world cup cricket games trophy is 65cm high, made from silver and gold and features a golden globe held up by three silver columns. The columns, shaped as stumps and bails, represent the three fundamental aspects of cricket: batting, bowling and fielding, while the globe represents the world and a cricket ball. The trophy is designed so that it can be instantly recognized from any angle.

The trophy weighs approximately 11 kilograms and has the names of the previous winners inscribed on its base. There is still room for a further ten teams to have their name inscribed on the base.

The International Cricket Council always keeps the actual trophy. A replica is presented to the winning team, which is identical in all aspects apart from the inscription of the previous champions.

In 1999, the trophy won by the Indian cricket team at the 1983 World Cup was damaged during a violent rampage on the Indian cricket board’s headquarters by the Hindu nationalist political group.

Crucial 30+ scores in India’s World Cup Cricket Game Winnings

The month of May is bringing with it the excitement of the World Cup Cricket Game. Yes, it is the year of the biggest tournament in the world of cricket, World Cup 2019. A treat for the cricket world cup fantasy league fans!

Whenever the Indian cricket team has won any of the World Cups, it has been history. 11 World Cups, India has won two. In addition, India has the T20I World Cup once. The ODI fantasy world cup fans in India are going to have another treat of cricket tournament after IPL ends.

There were multiple star-performers who did it for Indian winning. But there were a few crucial contributions during world cup trips, which ultimately made the impact in CWC fantasy.

Let’s go down the memory lane of the fantasy world cup. And see four such contributions that helped India achieve World Cup glory.

Suresh Raina – 34 vs. Australia in World Cup 2011 Quarter Final

India was playing against defending champions Australia. Ricky Ponting won an all-important toss in Ahmedabad and opted to bat first. Australia reached 260, which was a good total.

India began on a positive note but lost early wickets of Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir, both scoring 53 and 50 respectively. Once the duo was dismissed, Yuvraj Singh took up the responsibility and continued scoring at a brisk pace. MS Dhoni was dismissed and India was reeling at 187 for 5 in the 37th over, still requiring 74 runs from 74 balls.

Suresh Raina joined Yuvraj Singh and the duo wrestled back the momentum from Australia with a bit of wise batting. They were continuously rotating the strike and striking the periodic boundary when required. Raina scored 34 from 28 balls which came with 5 fours and a six. This partnership sealed the game for India and ousted the defending champions from the World Cup.

Kris Srikanth – 38 vs. West Indies in World Cup 1983 Final

India was the underdogs next to an all-conquering West Indies, which was recognized to frighten oppositions. KapilDev won the toss and decided to bat and India began on a poor note giving up their opener Sunil Gavaskar. Mohinder Amarnath and Srikanth resurrected the scenario with a 57-run stand.

Srikanth played some intense square cuts and strong hook shots. He was finally dismissed for a well-made 38 off 57 balls with seven fours and one six. India could make only 183. India’s bowlers bowled in a strict manner, not permitting the West Indies to move away from the hook. Indies finally bowed down to India’s resolution and got all out for 140.

India won the World Cup that year for the first time, making it the historic moment for them.

Rohit Sharma – 30 vs. Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2007 Final

India was playing against Pakistan in the inaugural T20 World Cup final in 2007 and the stakes were quite high. India was struggling at 111 for 4 in 15 overs. A young 20-year old Rohit Sharma played a thrilling cameo, scoring 30 from 16 balls. He ran perfectly between the wickets and hit a crucial six and a boundary in the last over to strengthen India to an affordable 157 for 5 in 20 overs.

Pakistan fought valiantly and fell short of the target by 5 runs. India brought the inaugural T20 World Cup home.

Virat Kohli – 35 versus Sri Lanka in World Cup 2011 Final

India was playing against Sri Lanka in the World Cup final 2011. Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and opted for batting. Sri Lanka began slowly, but made good runs in their innings and reached a match-winning 275.

India had one of the poorest starts in the World cup losing Sehwag for 0 and Tendulkar for 18. India was at 31 for 2, when came a youngster, replacing the “Little Master,” Virat Kohli. He smartly batted along with Gambhir and they were successful in taking singles and doubles while hitting the periodic boundary. Kohli was the supporter and Gambhir was the aggressor.

Virat was out for 35 from 49 balls. When India won the trophy, Dhoni credited the role played by the young Kohli and savoured him for soaking in all the pressure.

Cricket World Cup Fantasy 2019 – Afghanistan Squad

The history of Afghanistan cricket is much interesting. Fans of world cup fantasy cricket might know that the British played cricket in Afghanistan during the 19th century. However, the sport became popular amongst the Afghans living at the refugee camps in Pakistan during 1900.

In the early 2000s, when the Afghans began to move back home, they took cricket with them. To the joy of the world cup fantasy league cricket fans of the nation, a cricket board was formed in 1995. And a national team in 2001 which got affiliation from ICC in the same year.

The Afghanistan team had a series of success and losses in various international fronts. They narrowly missed their entry to World Cup 2011 and made their debut in the last cricket world cup. During their first ODI fantasy world cup appearance in 2015, they lost 5 matches in the group stage. Following this, they created history when they beat Scotland by 1 wicket on 26th February 2015. They recorded their first ever World Cup match win. It was a momentous occasion for them.

In 2018, the Afghanistan team gave a brilliant performance in the Asia Cup. Like with most new teams, there is a question of the immediate future once they have reached prominence. But in Afghanistan’s case, the next generation seems ready for the upcoming world cup cricket game in 2019.

Let us take a look at the declared Afghanistan squad for World Cup 2019. Read on:

World Cup Fantasy Cricket 2019 – New Zealand Squad

New Zealand is one of those nations that have been participating in the cricket world cup since its inaugural in 1975. The team was runner-up for the Cricket World Cup 2015 when Australia had beaten them to become the 5th-time winner. If the fans of world cup fantasy cricket rattle their memory, they are going to find that the New Zealand team has never won the world. And even they have reached to the finals only for one time.

During this World Cup 2019, Kiwis will start its matches from June 1st 2019. They will play against Sri Lanka at Cardiff Wales Stadium. They have released their 15 member cricket world cup squad. Now the ODI fantasy world cup fans can plan their dream team from New Zealand prior to the start of world cup from 30th May 2019.

New Zealand has reached the semi-finals on six occasions 1975, 1979, 1999, 2007, 2011 and 2015. They have co-hosted the world cup tournament with Australia in 1992 and 2015. The fantasy cricket world cup is surely going to the exciting one with Kiwis being a decent opponent for many.

New Zealand has been first to declare their team. Let us take a look at the Kiwi 15 members squad declared earlier to play in world cup cricket game.
