Thousands and millions of people change their birthnames later on in their life. Similarly, in the cricket fraternity, names play a crucial role. A cricketer becomes popular by his name!

Tillakaratne Dilshan 

This Sri Lankan cricketer is a popular name in international cricket. But did you know that he is originally a Muslim by birth? Difficult to ascertain as his name doesn’t suggest the same. However, his original name was Tuwan Mohammad Dilshan and his father was from a Malay group. However, from 1999, he started following the trends of Buddhism. It’s been a news that Dilshan’s mother was a follower of Buddhism from the very beginning. Thus, it was always in his blood. By embracing Buddhism, he decided to change his name. Indeed, a fun fact for the fantasy sports lover!  

Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi 

The well-known cricketer who was popularly called Tiger Pataudi was initially not called as Mansur. He was actually by birth the Junior Nawab of Pataudi family and hence by ritual was known as Nawab of Pataudi Junior. He became the youngest captain of the Indian cricket team in 1961 and for 10 years he played with this name. After that to abide by the changing government rules, he changed his name to Mansur. Since then, this dashing batsman made a special place in the hearts of millions of fans.  

Mohammad Yousuf 

Although he played for Pakistan, however from Muslim he converted to Christianity and also changed his name. Till 2005 he was known as Yousuf Youhana. But as soon as he converted, he changed his name to Mohammad Yousuf. Although the name won’t suggest that he is a Christian, however by religion he was! This made him the only cricketer with some other religious belief to play for the all-Muslim cricket team of Pakistan. For fantasy cricket league, religion or name doesn’t matter. What matters is the performance of the cricketer!  

Bob Willis 

Probably one of the bravest bowlers of the England team till date, Bob Willis was not originally called by this name. Well, it’s a high fascinating story though! During the 1960s the enigmatic musical performance by the great Bob Dylan impressed him. By birth, his name was Robert George Dylan Willis. The love for music inspired him to add a twist to his name. So, he walked up to the court and legally got his name changed to Bob Willis. However, fate didn’t favour his new name! He was repeatedly hurt and sustained many injuries while playing. But to the utter astonishment of the viewers, he played for 9 long years and delivered an outstanding performance.
