Fantasy Cricket record : Byes and Leg Byes in the World of Cricket

Bye and Leg bye are forms of runs award to the batting team. And labelled as extras in the score sheet and goes to team total and not against any batsmen. They are counted on the score board of daily fantasy cricket of 11Wickets app as well.

Let’s know about what bye in cricket and online fantasy cricket is. When a bowler delivers a ball, if the ball, not being a No ball or a Wide, passes the striker without touching players’ bat or person, any runs accomplish by the batsmen from that delivery, or a boundary allowance, shall qualify as Byes to the batting side.

And now what leg bye in cricket is. There are numerous conditions for leg byes award.

(a) If a bowler delivers a ball and it first strikes the person of the striker, runs scoring only if the umpire satisfies that the striker has either attempted to play the ball with his bat or tried to avoid being hit by the ball.

(b) If the umpire has satisfied that either of these conditions has been met runs has scored.

(i) If there is either no subsequent contact with the striker’s bat or person, or only inadvertent contact with the striker’s bat or person runs complete by the batsmen or a boundary allowance credits to the striker in the case of subsequent contact with his bat but otherwise to the batting side.

(ii) If the striker wilfully makes a lawful second strike, Laws 34.3 (Ball lawfully struck more than once) and 34.4 (Runs scored from ball lawfully struck more than once) shall apply.

Leg byes not to be award

The batting side credits with any runs from that delivery apart from the one run penalty for a No ball if applicable. Moreover, no other penalties arising from that delivery awards to the batting side. The following procedure adopts.

If no run attempts but the ball reaches the boundary, the umpire shall call and signal Dead ball, and disallow the boundary.

If runs attempts and if, neither batsman dismisses nor the ball does not become dead for any other reason, the umpire shall call and signal Dead ball as soon as one run completes or the ball reaches the boundary. The run or boundary shall be disallowed. The batsmen shall return to their original ends before one run is completed or the ball reaches the boundary, a batsman is dismissed, or the ball becomes dead for any other reason, all the provisions of the Laws will apply, except that no runs and no penalties shall be credited to the batting side, other than the penalty for a No ball if applicable.
