English Culture and England Cricket Team

England is said to be the modern initiator of cricket around the world. This is the nation who has initially popularized the sport slowly taking them to their colonies and playing there. As we all know that fantasy cricket is the recent trending game for cricket lovers, the sport has evolved a lot from the ancient times and has reached to this spot.

Take a look at the history of cricket in England and be sure you play fantasy cricket later after knowing is brief history:

Sports experts have found a reference of a game. It was like cricket in the household accounts of Edward I in 1300 being played in Kent.

The English game originated in the sheep-rearing nation of the South East. It was the small grass of the down-land pastures which made it possible to bowl a ball of wool or rags at a target. That target was normally the wicket-gate of the sheep pasture. It which was defended with a bat in the form of a shepherd’s twisted staff.

More to the story:

By 17th century the sport was fairly popular as a rough rural pastime, but in the next century the leisure classes took up the sport, especially in Sussex, Kent, and London. An organised match was hosted at the Artillery Grounds, Finsbury, London, in 1730. During the middle of the 18th century, cricket was being played at every niche of society, from the wealthy estates to the village greens. But, the game lacked a rational set of rules.

The first and most significant cricket club in the land was formed at Hambledon, Hampshire, in the 1760’s. The club was sponsored by wealthy patrons, but the players were local tradesmen and farmers. The Hambledon club established techniques of batting and bowling which still hold today.

The centre of power soon shifted to London, most notably with the advent of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), which had its headquarters at Lord’s ground. In 1835 the MCC gave cricket its first formal laws, which still stand mainly intact today.

A main boost for the sport of cricket was offered by famous schools like Eton, Harrow, and Winchester. The sport proved so admired among the wealthy students that an annual match termed as “Gentlemen vs. Players” took place at Lord’s from 1806-1963.

Major cricket matches can last as long as 5 days, with each side having two “innings”, or turns at bat. Recent substitutes to the longer matches are “limited over” matches. These events may take a fairly short 3-5 hours during the course of one day.

The modern day:

Cricket is now played global, and in spite of rare successes, it is fair to say that the real power in the game has shifted from England to nations like India, South Africa, Australia, Pakistan, West Indies, etc.

In England the major focus of the game is the county championship, with both four-day and one-day events running concurrently during the summer months. But conventional village cricket is still played in towns and villages all across the UK.

5 Tips for Fantasy Cricket Fans

We all know that cricket the religion and the most popular sport in India. This passion for sports has brought the trend of fantasy sports as it engages the ardent fans to their favourite sports. Online cricket games allow the fans to enjoy the matches in their television sets and also win prizes playing the games.

Your team competes with others entered in the same tournament, contest or league, and those players with the highest points get awarded as per the fantasy rules. Here we have list down 5 tips for the fantasy cricket players:

Ensure your player is playing on that day

The last thing you want to do is select a team of players that aren’t even playing in the real game. Avoid players who have been benched all season and avoid players who are even slightly in doubt of playing that particular match, due to injury or whatever other reason.

Don’t rely on merit

One thing you should never forget is that you must choose FORM over REPUTATION. The likes of popular players have been brilliant picks always. The players at form in 2015 are not likely to perform so well in 2018. Why not select a lesser known person, who have been running on some brilliant form and can prove in the matches.

Do a pitch report

No, we’re not asking you to fly down to place to check the pitches everyday but do a little homework about the pitch before choosing your team. Some pitches have become fast-paced pitch as compared and some are spin-friendly pitch. Similarly, some are two-paced wicket aiding the slower bowlers. Hence, choose your teams accordingly!

Select top order batsmen

You don’t want to be selecting batsmen who won’t even get a chance to bat in the game. Select your batsmen in such an order so that they can play in the top four. It is no use if they can’t bat and because of that, you cannot get any point.

Strike bowlers

You don’t want to be picking bowlers who just have low economy rates. Pick wicket taking bowlers, even if they have a tendency of giving away more runs. Pick bowlers who may get hit for a six, but their wicket taking ability is much higher.

Good for you if you are ahead of the game, however, if it is the other way around, then you have to rethink your strategies.

Adjust the line-up and the strategy used by the professional coaches to achieve the best results. Consult some information that support online fantasy games to learn more about starting your own team and how you will be able to make this known.

On your draft day, have a checklist to make things hassle free. Always bring your cheat sheets with you. You just spend hours doing this and it is time that you use it. Highlight players that are on the field or have played so that you can keep track of them. To comfort yourself, you have to bring some drinks. Whether it be beer, wine, soda or anything that can calm your nerves and help you think straight. In addition, you too have to make sure that your brain will work. Remember to pick your defence second to the last and your kicker the last.

Do these things and surely, you will experience higher fantasy rankings. If things do not go the way they should be, always have a backup plan. Even if you were not able to get the players that you originally want, you still have other options. It can be quite exciting and disappointing at times to see where your team is ranked. Nevertheless, there is so much room for improvement so see to it that you do.

Wide ball in Cricket – A History

From time to time, cricket lovers entertain themselves by going to watch the on-field matches or by playing fantasy cricket, which is very much in trend in the recent age.

The points earned in fantasy cricket games depend on many factors, and one of the factors is the performances of bowlers.

Wide ball is one of the crucial terms in cricket.

Let’s see what information we in our sling bag to share with you:

A wide ball does not count as one of the bowler’s six legitimate balls in one over.

Wide ball was introduced in the rules of cricket in 1983. Before 1983, only runs scored off the bat were debited against a bowler. The new rule was not introduced uniformly in every test playing nation. All the ICC test cricket full members, excluding Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, implemented the rule in 1983 and after that from their test cricket format. Bangladesh and Zimbabwe are the only nations to implement the rule before their first test match.

Nations  Rule Introduced
Australia  11th November, 1983
England  13th June, 1983
India  14th September, 1983
New Zealand  18th January, 1985
Pakistan  17th October, 1984
South Africa  13th November, 1992
Sri Lanka  30th August, 1985
West Indies  2nd March, 1984

The Rule:

It is an umpire’s job to decide when a wide ball has been bowled. A wide ball will be called when the batsman, playing a normal stroke, is not capable to reach the ball. This can be relevant to a bouncer above head height.

However a ball cannot be called wide if:

  • It is out of the batsman’s reach as an outcome of him moving away from it.
  • The striking batsman on the crease can bring the ball within reach by playing a conventional stroke.
  • The ball touches the batsman’s bat or any other part of his body.

The umpire will gesture a wide ball by raising both arms at shoulder height and the bowler must bowl another justifiable delivery. The rule is that, for every wide ball the fielding team is penalised one run. This run, along with any other runs achieved as an outcome of the wide ball, is added to the batting team’s tally of extras and does count against the bowler’s individual figures. Umpires’ interpretation of what constitutes a wide ball is much stricter in limited-over cricket than in first-class cricket, in particular with deliveries down the leg side. A batsman can be stump off a wide.

Top Forwards In The World To Notice

Football (Soccer) is one of the most popular global sports. The main aim of playing football is to score as many goals as a team can. And beat the other team by scoring higher goals. Earning points in fantasy football somewhat depend on the goals scoring.

Let us take a look on a few of the forwards who definitely can score a plenty of goals and help you earning points for your fantasy football league and also help you winning a match.

Lionel Messi (Barcelona)

Lionel Messi is at his magical best. A lot of people feared for Barcelona when Neymar departed the club and joined PSG. But people forgot that they still had the Argentine magician with them. Messi is totally radiant.

Playing on the right or through the centre, Messi is currently on top of the La Liga scoring charts. He has also mastered the art of taking free-kicks and has already scored plenty of superb free-kick goals.

With 33 goals and 13 assists in 40 matches, the Barcelona legend just edges Mohamed Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo as the best forward in global football.

A goal scorer and playmaker rolled into one, Messi will be hoping to guide Barcelona to another dramatic treble.

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

Mohamed Salah is undoubtedly the best. The Liverpool forward has surprised everyone with the impact he has had and is showing no signs of slowing down. Playing as a winger, it is astonishing that the Egyptian is tied with Harry Kane for the Golden Boot.

Cutting in from the right-hand side, the left-footed winger has scored all types of goals and defenders have struggled to cope with his quick pace, tricky feet and insane dribbling skills. Salah’s stats are honestly incredible. Having scored 31 goals in 39 looks so far, the 25-year-old superstar has also further assisted 9 goals.

With Liverpool fighting for a top 4 position in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals coming up, Jurgen Klopp will be hoping that the former Chelsea man continues his electric form and keeps scoring and setting up goals.

Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus)

A fierce resolve to be the best, Ronaldo with his grit and determination along with his supreme talent has become the single most recognisable name in global football today.

Ever since his move to Real Madrid, his goal scoring exploits is simply mind-boggling. Be it scoring the last penalty in a UEFA Champions League final penalty shoot-out or scoring a vital goal in the Euro 2016 semi-final, Ronaldo has repeatedly stepped up when it has mattered the most and shown the world what he is competent of.

Recently, Ronaldo has joined to Juventus Fc and we hope that here too he will mentain his brilliant form.

Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)

This one footballer has proved all his critics wrong with his wonderful performances in almost all his recent matches. Harry Kane has repeatedly shown that he is amongst the top forwards of global football (soccer) with his mind blowing performance in different matches this year.

Neymar (Paris Saint-Germain)

Neymar is the most expensive forward in the world. With an excellent start of his soccer career, he has formed devastating trio with Mbappe and Cavani. In his matches, at times it simply looks for the 26 year old magician as he just tricked and dribbled past his opponents with ridiculous ease.

The 1st edition of the Asia Cup was held in 1984 at one of the most iconic venues in the world which was Sharjah, UAE. Just 3 matches were held in the tournament as there were only three participants and those were between India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The Indian team emerged as the winner of the opening edition, defeating both Pakistan and Sri Lanka by a comfortable margin in the tournament which was majorly bowling-dominated.

No ducks in ODI format for Indian players

In the entire history of Asia Cup, none of the batsmen from the Indian team got out for a duck in the ODI format of the tournament, making us jaw-drop in wonder. However his record was broken in the T20I format which was held in Asia Cup 2016, it still remains to be in India’s favour in the ODIs. Sri Lanka holds the record of having the most ducks of 17, next to that is Bangladesh with 11 ducks and the come Pakistan cricket team with 9 ducks in the ODI format.

Just 5-wicket record by an Indian bowler

Indian team’s only 5-wicket record in Asia Cup came way back in Asia Cup 1988 against Pakistan in Dhaka. The right-arm off-break bowler, Arshad Ayub, put off the Pakistani team middle-order and recorded his best bowling figures of 9-0-21-5. While we’re on the subject, it happened to be Indian team and Asia Cup’s first 5-wicket score record.

Sachin Tendulkar and 17 wickets

Sachin Tendulkar’s all-rounder aptitude was always on display during the Asia Cup. He not just destroyed his opponents with the bat but also took them apart with his conventional spin bowling. In 23 matches, Tendulkar has picked up 17 wickets with a well average of 21.41 and stands 10th in the list of highest wicket-takers in Asia Cup.
