5 Tips for Fantasy Cricket Fans

We all know that cricket the religion and the most popular sport in India. This passion for sports has brought the trend of fantasy sports as it engages the ardent fans to their favourite sports. Online cricket games allow the fans to enjoy the matches in their television sets and also win prizes playing the games.

Your team competes with others entered in the same tournament, contest or league, and those players with the highest points get awarded as per the fantasy rules. Here we have list down 5 tips for the fantasy cricket players:

Ensure your player is playing on that day

The last thing you want to do is select a team of players that aren’t even playing in the real game. Avoid players who have been benched all season and avoid players who are even slightly in doubt of playing that particular match, due to injury or whatever other reason.

Don’t rely on merit

One thing you should never forget is that you must choose FORM over REPUTATION. The likes of popular players have been brilliant picks always. The players at form in 2015 are not likely to perform so well in 2018. Why not select a lesser known person, who have been running on some brilliant form and can prove in the matches.

Do a pitch report

No, we’re not asking you to fly down to place to check the pitches everyday but do a little homework about the pitch before choosing your team. Some pitches have become fast-paced pitch as compared and some are spin-friendly pitch. Similarly, some are two-paced wicket aiding the slower bowlers. Hence, choose your teams accordingly!

Select top order batsmen

You don’t want to be selecting batsmen who won’t even get a chance to bat in the game. Select your batsmen in such an order so that they can play in the top four. It is no use if they can’t bat and because of that, you cannot get any point.

Strike bowlers

You don’t want to be picking bowlers who just have low economy rates. Pick wicket taking bowlers, even if they have a tendency of giving away more runs. Pick bowlers who may get hit for a six, but their wicket taking ability is much higher.

It is something that they have to do to get high fantasy rankings. They are professional players and this is their way of living. If they want to have more advertisements and endorsements, they have to show the world that they are indeed worthy of it and are capable of representing the company.

First thing that you have to do is learn the rules as well as the ways in how to scoring. If you do not learn these things then you will have a hard time winning, and most importantly, drafting the players of your team. Ensure that you know what the role of each player is when they get to the field. In addition, scoring is also important as it will determine whether you are on the winning or losing end. Good for you if you are ahead of the game, however, if it is the other way around, then you have to rethink your strategies.

Highlight players that are on the field or have played so that you can keep track of them. To comfort yourself, you have to bring some drinks. Remember to pick your defence second to the last and your kicker the last.

Do these things and surely, you will experience higher fantasy rankings. If things do not go the way they should be, always have a backup plan. History Of Cricket In India

India is the land of cricket, amazing cricket grounds, talented cricketers. It is also one of the nations who have lots of top international rated batsmen and bowlers. They have some amazing records of theirs in their bags and for their ardent fans.

Real cricket or fantasy cricket, no matter what, cricket needs the Indian fans to stay to be forever associated with it to be in limelight forever.

Online fantasy cricket is the game which binds the cricket fans with the real cricket. Do you play them too? We assume, like us you too are the fans of cricket and show up your skills and knowledge of cricket through online cricket. Let us tell you the tale of Indian cricket history:

The entire history of Indian cricket is based on the existence and growth of the British Raj through the East India Company.

The initial days:

On 31st December 1600, Queen Elizabeth I granted a Royal Charter to East India Company. Initially, it emerged as the trading company. It later on started to conquer all the parts of India and rule it. The East India Company was the tool to bring the game of cricket to India.

The Company founded the city of Madras in 1639, acquired Portuguese region. It was on the west coast of India which included the city of Bombay in 1661. In 1690, an Anglo-Mughal treaty allowed English traders to establish a trading settlement on the Hooghly River, which became the modern Calcutta. All these places were the leading centres of cricket as the fame of the game grew among the native people.

The first match:

The first definite mention of cricket played anywhere in India, from a report of English sailors of the east India Company written in 1737. Reports was that cricket played at Cambay, near Baroda in 1721. The Calcutta Cricket and Football Club came in existence by 1792, but perhaps founded more than a decade earlier. Another club formed at Seringapatam, south India in 1799 after the victorious British siege and the defeat of Tipu Sultan.

In 1864, a match between Madras and Calcutta was possibly the beginning of first-class cricket in India. The British played the Indians to form bonds with the Indians. And if the Indian influential had links with the British, the British could have more control of India through Cricket.

The most vital game in the 19th century was the Bombay Presidency Match which developed, first, into Bombay Triangular and later on into Bombay Quadrangular. The match was played in 1877 first. Then sporadically for some seasons played until at last being given first-class status in 1892-93.

An English team led by George Vernon in 1889–90 was the first foreign team to tour India. But none of the matches that it played regarded as first-class.

First-class cricket began in the 1892–93 season with two matches Europeans against Parsees, at Bombay and Poona. The first match was drawn and the in the second match Parsees won by 3 wickets. Lord Hawke captained an English team which played four first-class matches including a game against “All India” on 26–28 January 1893.

Wide ball in Cricket – A History

From time to time, cricket lovers entertain themselves by going to watch the on-field matches or by playing fantasy cricket, which is very much in trend in the recent age.

The points earned in fantasy cricket games depend on many factors, and one of the factors is the performances of bowlers.

Wide ball is one of the crucial terms in cricket.

Let’s see what information we in our sling bag to share with you:

A wide ball does not count as one of the bowler’s six legitimate balls in one over.

Wide ball was introduced in the rules of cricket in 1983. Before 1983, only runs scored off the bat were debited against a bowler. The new rule was not introduced uniformly in every test playing nation. All the ICC test cricket full members, excluding Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, implemented the rule in 1983 and after that from their test cricket format. Bangladesh and Zimbabwe are the only nations to implement the rule before their first test match.

Nations  Rule Introduced
Australia  11th November, 1983
England  13th June, 1983
India  14th September, 1983
New Zealand  18th January, 1985
Pakistan  17th October, 1984
South Africa  13th November, 1992
Sri Lanka  30th August, 1985
West Indies  2nd March, 1984

The Rule:

It is an umpire’s job to decide when a wide ball has been bowled. A wide ball will be called when the batsman, playing a normal stroke, is not capable to reach the ball. This can be relevant to a bouncer above head height.

However a ball cannot be called wide if:

  • It is out of the batsman’s reach as an outcome of him moving away from it.
  • The striking batsman on the crease can bring the ball within reach by playing a conventional stroke.
  • The ball touches the batsman’s bat or any other part of his body.

The umpire will gesture a wide ball by raising both arms at shoulder height and the bowler must bowl another justifiable delivery. The rule is that, for every wide ball the fielding team is penalised one run. This run, along with any other runs achieved as an outcome of the wide ball, is added to the batting team’s tally of extras and does count against the bowler’s individual figures. Umpires’ interpretation of what constitutes a wide ball is much stricter in limited-over cricket than in first-class cricket, in particular with deliveries down the leg side. A batsman can be stump off a wide.

Know the ‘No Ball’ in Cricket

Fantasy cricket is all about how wisely you are using your cricket skill, knowledge and understanding to create your own dream 11 fantasy team.

Without knowing and understanding the details of the technicalities of cricket, it is just a guess working in fantasy sports. Hence, in our post today, we bring you “No Ball”. Have a glance and you will discover many new things about “No Ball”:

So do you know what a no ball is? A no ball in cricket is an illegal delivery causing a one-run or two-run penalty for the team on the fielding side.

Types of no ball

Front foot no ball

When in the act of bowling the ball, the bowler fails to land any part of their front foot behind the popping crease, it is said to be front foot no ball.

Back foot no ball

When delivering the ball, the bowler touches the return crease with their back foot, it is known to be back foot no ball.

High full toss no ball

When the bowler’s delivery reaches the batsman above waist height without bouncing, called as high toss no ball.

Above head height no-ball

When the ball bounces high off the pitch and passes the batsman above head height, it is known as above head height no ball. In some scenarios, this is ruled to be a wide. While in others such as Test match cricket bowlers are permitted two per over before a no ball is called.

Throwing no ball

When the bowler throws the ball, they bowl with the elbow at an angle greater than 15 degree;  known as throwing no ball.

Breaking the stumps no ball

When the bowler is of course allow to break the stumps at the batsman’s end with the ball, known as breaking the stumps no ball. ‘Bowled’ is one of the most common ways of getting out in cricket. But if they break the stumps at the non-striker’s end in their delivery stride, it’s a no ball. England’s Steven Finn had a problem with this for some time, back when breaking the stumps resulted in a dead ball.

Change of action no ball

When the bowler delivers the ball with the opposite arm or from a different side of the stumps without first notifying the umpire, called change of action no ball.

Underarm no ball

When the bowler bowls underarm rather than overarm called as underarm no ball. Have you not heard of the well-known underarm incident involving an Australia vs. New Zealand match in the 1980s.

Double bounce no ball

When the ball bounces more than once before reaching the batsman, known as double bounce no ball.

Fielding restrictions no ball

When the fielding team has placed its fielders in breach of the restrictions agreed upon in advance of the match, it is termed as fielding restrictions no ball. The most common example is for having too many fielders outside the inner circle of the cricket field.

Tale Of The Longest Cricket Match

Cricket has its own grandeur amongst all other sports and this grandeur shows up more and more in the fantasy cricket league. The understanding of cricket’s rich history is thrilling as well as knowledgeable.

Are you just planning to sit down with one of your online fantasy cricket to play and enjoy? Make your team and read this interesting tale till the real match starts. We are sure you will find this post interesting and full of unknown facts. Just read on:

The game played between South Africa and England at the historic Kingsmead, Durban. The game started on Friday 3 March and it ended 14 March 1939, after 43 hours and 16 minutes of play, 1,981 runs, and 5,447 balls. After all that, it still lacked the one thing it supposed to have – a winner. England needed 41 runs to win. But the match had drawn because the English players had to leave to catch their boat back to England. The match included 9 days of play spread over 12 days due to torrential showers.

Due to the draw result, and the length of this match, it is over and over again referring as the ‘timeless’ test. And the only one of its type in history.

The Concept of a Timeless Test

A timeless test is alike to modern test cricket, with the exception of the fact that there are no time constraints. Both sides of the team carry on playing the match until one side wins or the match gets tied.

There have been 99 timeless Tests played between the years 1877 to 1939. The last match was fifth test match of South Africa and England. The match was not expected to be played more than 5 days but it went on to 12 days d and its duration became the longest on record in the history of cricket.

South African team and England shared an intense rivalry even then in the 1930s. The 5 match series was 1 – 0 in the favour of the visitors. This was the last opportunity for the South African team to make the series a tie against the mighty England team.

Sri Lanka and India are the most successful teams in Asia Cup, though; Sri Lanka has not been so successful in Asia Cup 2018. So, we were talking about the Asia Cup 2018 and we are going to tell you some of the records which came surprisingly from the surprising corners of the tournament. Explore them with us:

No final in Asia Cup 1984

The 1st edition of the Asia Cup was held in 1984 at one of the most iconic venues in the world which was Sharjah, UAE. Just 3 matches were held in the tournament as there were only three participants and those were between India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The Indian team emerged as the winner of the opening edition, defeating both Pakistan and Sri Lanka by a comfortable margin in the tournament which was majorly bowling-dominated.

No ducks in ODI format for Indian players

In the entire history of Asia Cup, none of the batsmen from the Indian team got out for a duck in the ODI format of the tournament, making us jaw-drop in wonder. However his record was broken in the T20I format which was held in Asia Cup 2016, it still remains to be in India’s favour in the ODIs. Sri Lanka holds the record of having the most ducks of 17, next to that is Bangladesh with 11 ducks and the come Pakistan cricket team with 9 ducks in the ODI format.

Just 5-wicket record by an Indian bowler

Indian team’s only 5-wicket record in Asia Cup came way back in Asia Cup 1988 against Pakistan in Dhaka. The right-arm off-break bowler, Arshad Ayub, put off the Pakistani team middle-order and recorded his best bowling figures of 9-0-21-5. While we’re on the subject, it happened to be Indian team and Asia Cup’s first 5-wicket score record.

Best bowling strike rate for Virender Sehwag

In general, Virender Sehwag’s name appears on the top of the best batting strike rate list. But in Asia Cup, he holds the record of best bowling strike rate in one innings with his scorching spell of 2.5-0-6-4 against Bangladesh cricket team in Dambulla. Picking up wickets for every 4.2 balls, Sehwag’s spell restricted Bangladesh to 167, helping India to get an inclusive victory.

Sachin Tendulkar and 17 wickets

Sachin Tendulkar’s all-rounder aptitude was always on display during the Asia Cup. He not just destroyed his opponents with the bat but also took them apart with his conventional spin bowling. In 23 matches, Tendulkar has picked up 17 wickets with a well average of 21.41 and stands 10th in the list of highest wicket-takers in Asia Cup.

Relive Bangladesh Performance at Asia Cup

It is compelling to witness a game, passed on by the British colonial power, capturing a major portion in the life of people in South Asian nations. The craze is so much that this part of the world has more followers of the sport than any other part of the world. Along with the craze of cricket, the craze of online fantasy cricket is also the cause of increasing followers in this part of the world.

Asia Cup began in 1984 with India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan as the initial participating nations and is now player every alternating year since 2008. Bangladesh joined the tournament in 1986. Bangladesh qualified for the 1988 Asia Cup, this time hosting the tournament; it was the first time ODIs had been staged in the country.

Although they lost all their matches, Bangladesh’s fixtures were retrospectively awarded ODI. Floods in the preceding months meant the tournament was in doubt; but it went ahead as planned. A charity match raised $70,000 for the flood victims.

Bangladesh has been emerging as a strong team since the World Cup 2015, where they defeated England team and entered the quarterfinals.

Junaid Siddique against Pakistan

Junaid Siddique, though forgotten already is the third batsman of Bangladeshi cricket team to score 97 runs against Pakistan in Asia Cup 2010. In spite of the performance of Siddique, Bangladesh team was crushed under the huge score of 385 runs made by Pakistan. Bangladesh lost by a margin of 139 runs.

Anamul Haque against Pakistan

Anamul Haque’s starting career still shines like a star for the cricket fans. Fans might remember his 100 in Asia Cup 2014 against Pakistan. With the help of his 100 run Bangladesh posted a score of 326 runs on the scoreboard. However, for tremendous performance of Shahis Afridi, Bangladesh performance went in vain. They lost the match.

Mohammad Ashraful against UAE

History of Bangladesh cricket is linked with the name of Mohammad Ashraful. Ashraful hit the very first century by any Bangladeshi cricketer in Asia Cup 2008 at Lahore against UAE. He scored 109 runs. This match was their second win in Asia cup. Thanks to skipper Mohammad Ashraful’s century.

Alok Kapali against India

Bangladeshi batsmen have scored just two centuries against India and the first amongst them is Alok Kapali. It was the Asia Cup 2008 and Bangladesh scored 283 with Alok scoring 115 of 96 balls. The innings is considered as best batting show by a Bangladeshi cricketer in Asia Cup. But with India’s marvellous batting line, Bangladesh lost the match.

Mushfiqur Rahim against India

The second man to make century against India in Asia Cup is Mushfiqur Rahim. The match was the battle of two team’s captain. Bangladeshi captain Mushfiqur Rahim’s wonderful score of 117 runs, was washed by India with 136 runs from the captain Virat Kohli. India won the match but Mushfiqur Rahim’s score is still memorable for Asia Cup 2014 history.

And it would be more than a hundred years before cricket returned in the nation.

During the 1990s, cricket became well-liked amongst Afghan refugees in Pakistan. In 1995, Afghanistan Cricket Federation formed there. They kept on playing cricket after their return to their home country during late 2001. During the reign of the Taliban, like all sports, cricket originally banned by them. However, it was turning out to be an exception in the year 2000 the Afghanistan Cricket Federation chosen as an affiliate member of the ICC the next year.

Asia Cup 2018
