George Alphonso Headley was born on 30th May 1909 and played only 22 Test matches, mostly before the Second World War. West Indies had a weak cricket team during most of Headley’s playing career. As their one world-class player, he carried a heavy responsibility and the side depended on his batting. He batted at number three, scoring 2,190 runs in Tests at an average of 60.83, and 9,921 runs in first-class matches at an average of 69.86. By the start of the 2nd World War he had totaled 9532 runs in first-class cricket with an average of 72.21 cricket legend. 

The war really interrupted Headley’s career. Even though he returned to Tests in 1948, his performance was a glimpse when compared to one before war. He extended his aggregate to 9921 runs, with 33 centuries and an average of 69.86. 

After got retired on 1954, Headley was employed as a cricket coach by the Jamaican government until 1962. He lived until 1983; his son Ron and his grandson Dean each played Test match cricket, for West Indies.
