Pitch conditions play a massive role in how a cricket match plays out and based on that points can be earned in the online fantasy cricket contests. Usually, pitches are groomed to fit international standards; but sometimes games are disrupted by unplayable pitches.
A pitch is affected by several factors like dew, weather condition, wind and ground. This means, it also affects the scoring points of daily fantasy cricket games at 11wickets app
Here are some of the most iconic pitches around the world and play fantasy cricket online.
Saravanamuttu Stadium, Colombo
Saravanamuttu Stadium, also known as the Colombo Oval, was the host to India’s warm-up match against the Sri Lankan Board XI before the real series back in 2001. The first two days were quite normal and the Sri Lankan Board XI managed to get 326 runs on the board before being bowled out. But, on the third day, the bounce turned out to be quite odd and the ball rose almost to the shoulder level even from good length! The game was suspended then, just after 0.2 overs of the third day and the umpires stated that the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium pitch was not fit to play and was unsafe.
WACA, Perth
WACA stands for Western Australia cricket association, and the ground, normally termed as Perth, has a pitch recognized to add extra jump to every ball delivery that kisses it. Cricketers mainly have to play out of their skins to win a match there. The concept of bat first or second hardly matters for this pitch, and arguably this is the fastest pitch in the world which demands more application from batsmen than somewhere else.
In south of Western Australia – a place Waroona from where curator Sam Sutherland imported the clay in a bid to revive the carry bowlers used to get at WACA pitch in the seventies. This was completed after the 2010-11 Test amid Australia and England. Earlier in 2000 an interstate match had to be called off when umpires decided the pitch was too risky to play.
Sabina Park, Jamaica
Even the best of pitches turns to be a graveyard for the batsmen, if ignored by the ground staff. England found that out in the first Test of their series in the West Indies in 1998, when they were sent packing for 51 at Sabina Park, much to their distress.
In reality, Kingston is one of the few venues that have often offered support to the bowlers over the last few years. Corey Collymore bagged 7 for 57 against Sri Lanka in 2003 and 7 for 78 against Pakistan in 2005, Steve Harmison took 7 for 12 in 2004, while Stuart Clark nailed 5 for 32 in 2008. The conflicting bounce is very treacherous apart from the cracks that make judging the line tough. During that Test match in 1998 between West Indies and England, many were left bruised because of the poor condition of the pitch.
Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi:
Delhi has been a Traditional Test centre for India. And Kotla is where Anil Kumble routed the Pakistanis to become only the second bowler after Jim Laker to take 10 wickets in a Test innings. But the pitch here came under harsh criticism in 2009. The fifth and final ODI of a series against Sri Lanka which India had previously won was suspended after the pitch was deemed too risky for match. The pitch was later classified as out of condition in the match referees report and handed a 12 month ban by the ICC. Run by the DDCA and founded way back in 1883 this was a blot on the ground’s famous history. Till date officials are wary before awarding it a big game.
Kingsmead, Durban:
It has seen lots of batting collapses over the years and whether it come to Tests or ODIs pacers just rule the roosts here. If we see decade wise fast bowling averages it might have got fairly higher but the extra grass left these days more than recompenses. It is easily the fastest pitch in South Africa and maybe the second fastest in the world after Perth. It is no shocker the top 8 wicket takers on this ground are all pacers. Playing here even South Africa are not privilege to the home benefit as even military medium quicks extract ample and dilemma the strong South African batting line up.
