It is compelling to witness a game, passed on by the British colonial power, capturing a major portion in the life of people in South Asian nations. The craze is so much that this part of the world has more followers of the sport than any other part of the world. Along with the craze of cricket, the craze of online fantasy cricket is also the cause of increasing followers in this part of the world.

Asia Cup began in 1984 with India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan as the initial participating nations and is now player every alternating year since 2008. Bangladesh joined the tournament in 1986. Bangladesh qualified for the 1988 Asia Cup, this time hosting the tournament; it was the first time ODIs had been staged in the country.

Although they lost all their matches, Bangladesh’s fixtures were retrospectively awarded ODI. Floods in the preceding months meant the tournament was in doubt; but it went ahead as planned. A charity match raised $70,000 for the flood victims.

Bangladesh has been emerging as a strong team since the World Cup 2015, where they defeated England team and entered the quarterfinals.
